King of the Mountain - Enduro Race
2012-09-29

What is the King of the Mountain All-Mountain Enduro Race? It is an event that is open to riders of all ability levels which will incorporate various aspects of Mountain Biking including: downhill, cross-country and trail riding. Enduro racing combines the best elements of racing and group riding by allowing participants to experience the thrills and challenges of racing while still enjoying the social aspects of riding with friends.
Date: Saturday September 29th – Sunday September 30th
Format: The King of the Mountain Enduro race will be comprised of several timed “special” stages and non timed “transport” stages. The “specials” will consist primarily of downhill and technical sections but riders should expect to climb up to 10-20% of the total distance of each stage. The “transport” stages between each "special" will move riders from one area of the mountain to the other and may include some significant climbs.
Riders earn points based on their placements in each of the timed “special” stages. In addition, riders will have the opportunity to earn bonus points by competing in various skills challenges during the event. The riders with the most points at the completion of the race will be crowned the winner.
Lite Enduro Event:
Novice riders and those new to racing may choose to participate in the Saturday-Only Lite Enduro Event. This single-day race will consist of 3 stages and 2 bonus challenges. Open to amateurs only. Total Distance: approx 9 miles.
King of the Mountain Enduro:
This 2-day event is geared toward more advanced riders who want to accept the challenge of competing for the overall King of the Mountain title. This race will build upon the 1 day experience by offering 2 additional stages which utilize the some of the more difficult, steep, rocky terrain that the mountain has to offer. Total Distance: approx 13 miles.
*All Riders must complete the entire race (1 day or 2 day) on the same bike. Riders must choose their weapon carefully… You’ll want a bike that climbs efficiently and will still hold up to the pounding of our downhill terrain. Our recommendation is a full-suspension trail bike with at least 5” of travel or the equivalent (29’er). Reference photos of each racer and their bike set-up will be taken on Saturday. Full-face helmets and protective equipment are reccomended for the King of the Mountain participants. All riders must be self-sufficient on the trails and carry their own gear to all stages.
Stages:
Part of the fun of Enduro races is getting to ride terrain that is traditionally not open or suitable to racing. The King of the Mountain race will utilize the various terrain elements that the Mountain Creek Bike Park and the surrounding resort has to offer.
We have partnered with Teva and Shimano athlete Jeff Lenosky to assist us in the course design and layout for our race and we promise that it will be a fun and challenging 2 days of riding downhill, technical trails, rocky climbs and cross-country loops in the true spirit of the Enduro style format.
